"A photo book that the world doesn't need" is the demoralising premise of Klaus Vyhnalek's experimental work "It's a sad and beautiful word". It lays the foundation for an experimental exploration of photography that consciously accepts and challenges the limits of the media. Klaus Vyhnalek is aware of the limitations of a reproduced work compared to a high-quality print. He therefore opts for a rare and not exactly harmless path in photography: he completely relinquishes control over his work. This bold decision, which departs from the typical endeavour for artistic autonomy, forms the basis for a transformative project.

The task was simple, yet profound: to convey something new and meaningful to the viewer within the confines of a small-format photo book. Through the sometimes extreme cropping of Klaus Vyhnalek's carefully composed scenes and their subsequent unexpected pairing, the book transforms limitations into strengths. This editing process not only emphasises previously overlooked aspects of each photograph, but also weaves them into a surprising visual narrative that offers fresh perspectives on Klaus Vyhnalek's work and potentially diverges from his original intentions.

"It's a sad and beautiful word" is thus a celebration of creative letting go and collaboration, offering viewers a unique journey through the intricacies of visual storytelling.
